Update:
According to Mike Klis, the trade parameters of the deal include Case Keenum and a 2020 seventh-round pick going to the Redskins for a 2020 sixth-round pick.
Klis says that Keenum has agreed to a reworked contract that including the Broncos paying him a $500,000 restructured bonus and $3.5 million of his $7 million salary. The Redskins will pay Keenum the other half.
In turn, Keenum gets a pay increase to $7.5 million, per Klis.
Klis adds that the trade should be officially processed next Wednesday.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Redskins and Broncos are working on a trade that will send backup QB Case Keenum to Washington.
According to Rapoport, both teams are motivated to get this deal done.
Rapoport says that Keenum was the Redskins’ top quarterback based on his contract and the price. Keenum is expected to compete with Colt McCoy for the starting job once a trade is finalized.
Nate Blogg first reported that the Redskins were set to acquire Keenum in a deal that could possibly swap sixth- and seventh-round picks.
There had been a lot of rumors that Keenum could end up in Washington over the past few days and it appears as though this trade will get done.
Keenum, 30, wound up signing on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Houston back in 2013. He spent two years with the Texans before he was claimed off of waivers by the Rams.
Keenum later returned to the Texans before being traded back to the Rams for a 2016 seventh-round pick. The Rams used a first-round tender on Keenum last year that paid him $3.635 million for the 2016 season.
After spending a year with the Vikings, Keenum agreed to a two-year, $36 million contract that included $25 million guaranteed with the Broncos last year.
In 2018, Keenum appeared in all 16 games for the Broncos and threw for 3,890 yards while completing 62.3 percent of his passes to go along with 18 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He also rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 26 quarterback out of 38 qualifying players.
