Chiefs Waive RB Kareem Hunt

Update:

Following the news of his release from the Chiefs, Kareem Hunt released the following statement:

“I want to apologize for my actions. I deeply regret what I did. I hope to move on from this.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced Friday that they’ve waived RB Kareem Hunt after the video surfaced of him earlier in the day getting into a physical altercation with a 19-year-old woman at a Cleveland hotel back in February.

The Chiefs released the following statement regarding the move:

“Earlier this year, we were made aware of an incident involving running back Kareem Hunt. At that time, the National Football League and law enforcement initiated investigations into the issue. As part of our internal discussions with Kareem, several members of our management team spoke directly to him. Kareem was not truthful in those discussions. The video released today confirms that fact. We are releasing Kareem immediately.”

This comes shortly after the NFL announced that they’ve officially placed Hunt on the commissioner exempt list and begun an investigation including the review of new information that was made public today.

According to Ian Rapoport, neither the NFL nor the Chiefs had seen the video involving Hunt until it was published today.

Rapoport says that the NFL made several attempts to obtain it, but the hotel said it was corporate policy to only turn it over to law enforcement.

Beyond that, Rapoport adds that the Cleveland Police Department would not provide it either.

Even though there were no charges filed against Hunt, the NFL reportedly continued its investigation which included contacting the alleged victims, but they didn’t respond, per Rapoport.

Hunt was also involved in an incident this past June in which he allegedly punched a man at an Ohio resort, but no charges filed.

Hunt, 23, is a former third-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2017. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $3.263-million contract and set to make base salaries of $555,000 and $645,000 over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Hunt has appeared in 11 games for the Chiefs and rushed for 824 yards on 181 carries (4.6 YPC) to go along with 26 receptions for 378 yards receiving and 14 total touchdowns.

  1. Another BLUNDER by the NFL and Roger Goodell. They knew about this incident since February 2018, that’s 10 months. They tried to cover the incident up, just like the 2014 Ray Rice “punch fest”. But! Once again the video of the incident went PUBLIC again! And now the “hot potato” blame game starts between the NFL and the Chiefs’ organization.
Here’s a remedy for starters. According to Goodell and the NFL these are ZERO TOLERANCE incidents, PERIOD! Just because the victim doesn’t press charges, doesn’t mean the incidents(s) are kept under wraps until videos of the incident(s) go public. Then the league decides to do something. Hunt’s fate should be the same as Ray Rice’s. PERIOD! No reinstatement!!!!! Because Hunt is not sorry or regretful of his actions. If Hunt was sorry, Hunt would have come forward immediately the day after it happened and Hunt didn’t. PERIOD! Hunt is only sorry and regretful he got caught and he knows it.
Is it really a surprise to anyone, that this comes out 10 months later?! The NFL, NFL Owners and players such as Malcolm Jenkins, Eric Reid, Chris Long, etc. invest money together in COALITIONS to release criminals from prison. REALLY!!!!! Does it make sense. What happened in the Hunt and Rice incidents are cases of SOCIAL INJUSTICE to an extent. Both women were victims of physical abuse by overgrown most likely roided out fools that call themselves men. And the NFL picks and choose when it’s the right time to take action.
Also. The NFL and the Chiefs knew about this since February. The video could have been obtained right when it happened. So! The Chiefs should have to forfeit their whole season as punishment. Maybe these big tough guy women beaters will get a hint. But! That will never happen. When one of these women become a fatality in these ridiculous incidents. Unfortunately! That’s when issues like this will be taken seriously.
