Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Jaguars are trading CB A.J. Bouye to the Broncos in return for a 2020 fourth-round pick.
- According to Mike Klis, the Broncos are trading the fourth-round pick they got in the Emmanuel Sanders trade with the 49ers to Jacksonville as part of this deal.
- Bouye tells Josina Anderson of the trade to the Broncos: “I’m on the way to get my kids, I get a phone call from (Dave) Caldwell, saying he appreciates everything I did for the team. Then Elway calls me, saying welcome to Denver. Now everyone is calling, I’m just finding out. I want to thank Jacksonville.“
This trade likely decreases the odds of free agent CB Chris Harris Jr being back in Denver next year.
Despite being a high-profile signing by the Jaguars a few years ago, it was clear that Bouye’s future in Jacksonville was in question.
The two teams won’t be able to officially process this trade until March 18, which is the start of the 2020 league year.
Bouye, 28, wound up signing on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of UCF back in 2013. He returned to the Texans on a one-year, $1.671 million restricted contract in 2016.
Bouye later departed for a five-year, $67.5 million with the Jaguars. He stands to make base salaries of $13 million over the final two years of the agreement.
According to OverTheCap.com, trading Bouye frees up $11.437 million in cap space for the Jaguars while creating $4 million in dead money.
In 2019, Bouye appeared in 14 games for the Jaguars and recorded 65 tackles, one interception and eight passes defended. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 75 receiver out of 113 qualifying players.
