Field Yates reports that Patriots are signing former Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas to a contract on Tuesday.
- Ian Rapoport reports that Thomas receives a one-year contract worth up to $6 million from the Patriots.
The Patriots brought Thomas in for a recent visit and could use help at receiver, so this seems to make some sense. Thomas has ties to Patriots OC Josh McDaniels from their time together in Denver.
It’s worth mentioning that Thomas is coming off of a season-ending Achilles tear.
There were reports from last year that the Patriots had trade interest in Thomas, but he was ultimately traded to the Texans before the deadline.
Thomas, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Broncos back in 2010. He’s entering the final of his five-year, $70 million contract that included $43.5 million guaranteed and was set to make a base salary of $14 million for the 2019 season.
The Broncos traded Thomas to the Texans for fourth- and seventh-round picks before the deadline last year. Houston recently released Thomas in a move that freed up $14 million of available cap space.
In 2018, Thomas appeared in 15 games for the Texans and Broncos and caught 59 passes for 677 yards receiving and five touchdowns.
