Texans Trading Jadeveon Clowney To Seahawks

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that the Seahawks and Texans have agreed to trade parameters for a deal that will send Jadeveon Clowney to Seattle.

  • According to Glazer, the trade is contingent upon Clowney and other players involved in the deal passing physicals. Glazer says there are still moving parts involved, but the belief is that Clowney is headed to the Seahawks.
  • According to Albert Breer, the Seahawks are sending a 2020 third-round pick and DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo and LB Jacob Martin to the Texans for Clowney.

Clowney’s preference has been to play for either the Seahawks or Eagles and it looks like Seattle was able to step up and get an agreement in place for the former first overall pick.

It’s worth mentioning that Clowney will have to sign his franchise tender to facilitate a trade to Seattle, but that shouldn’t be a big issue.

Clowney, 25, is a former No. 1 overall pick of the Texans back in 2014. He was in the final year of his four-year, $22.272 million contract when the Texans picked up his fifth-year option which paid him $12.306 million for 2018.

In 2018, Clowney appeared in 15 games for the Texans and recorded 47 tackles, 9 sacks, a forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, one defensive touchdown and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 overall edge defender out of 103 qualifying players.
