Von Miller Expected To Undergo Season-Ending Ankle Surgery

Update:

Adam Schefter reports that Broncos OLB Von Miller injured a tendon in his ankle on the last play of practice on Tuesday.

According to Schefter, the expectation is that Miller will require season-ending surgery.

To make matters worse, Schefter says Denver still doesn’t know whether former first-round pick Bradley Chubb, who tore his ACL last year, will be ready to open the season Monday night against the Titans.

Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Broncos OLB Von Miller suffered an ankle injury during practice on Tuesday.

According to Rapoport, the fear is that this ankle injury will cost Miller the entire 2020 season. However, they’re still waiting for the MRI results.

Adam Schefter confirms that Miller does, in fact, have an ankle injury that could be season-ending. One source tells Schefter that it was a “freak injury” during practice.

Garafolo mentions that the belief is that Miller did not suffer an Achilles tear.

Mike Klis is reporting that Miller will travel to Green Bay to consult with Dr. Robert Anderson, but surgery is expected.

Miller, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Broncos back in 2011. After playing out his rookie deal, Denver picked up his fifth-year option and later used their franchise tag on Miller.

The Broncos signed Miller to a six-year, $114 million extension in 2016 with $70 million guaranteed. He will make $18 million in 2020 with $6 million fully guaranteed and count $25.625 million against the cap.

Denver officially picked up Miller’s option earlier this offseason.

In 2019, Miller appeared in 15 games for the Broncos and recorded 46 tackles, eight sacks and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 25 edge defender out of 111 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Miller as the news is available.
