Broncos May Deactivate Rookie RB Ronnie Hillman For Regular Season Games

Broncos’ rookie RB Ronnie Hillman has been dropping down the team’s depth chart in recent weeks, to the point where Knowshon Moreno, who was believed to possibly be on the chopping block at one point, has secured the backup running back job.

Hillman has struggled with the volume of the team’s offensive scheme, as well as pass-protecting. As of now, he’s the No. 4 back on the team’s depth chart, which is a strong indication that he will be deactivated for at least a few regular season games.

“There’s so much more that we’re doing right now offensively than what he did in college, it’s going to be a day-to-day basis with him,” said OC Mike McCoy, per Andrew Mason of CBSSports.com. “We’re not slowing down for anybody now.”

Willis McGahee remains the team’s No. 1 option, but there’s still a chance that Hillman could see playing time at later point in the season. After all, McGahee tends to take a beating every year.
