Broncos Planning To Start Paxton Lynch In Week 17

On Tuesday, Broncos HC Vance Joseph told reporters that the plan is to play Paxton Lynch and give him the start for their season finale.

The plan is to start Paxton,” Joseph said, per Nicki Jhabvala. “He wasn’t quite ready last week so hopefully he’s ready to go this week. That’s the plan, to start Paxton this week. We want to see him play. That’s been the goal the last couple of weeks and that hasn’t happened.

“We simply want to see this guy play. He’s had one start this year where he played two-and-a-half, almost three quarters. So we want to see him play. He hasn’t played much as a Bronco. It’s simple: We want to see him play. Very simple.”

When asked about Brock Osweiler, Joseph said it really comes down to keeping the offense moving.

“Brock, in opinion, he was very solid,” Osweiler said, per Nicki Jhabvala. “I was really happy with his ball placement most of the year. But again, when the offense doesn’t go, it’s not all on one person.”

Denver has made it clear that want to see Lynch play before the season is out, assuming of course he’s healthy enough to suit up, so this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

Lynch, 23, was taken with the No. 26 overall pick after the Broncos traded up from No. 31 overall to get him in last year’s draft. Lynch signed a four-year, $9.4 million contract that includes $7.88 guaranteed and is set to make base salaries of $880,741 and $1.31 million over the next two years.

The contract also includes a fifth-year option to pick up in 2019.

In 2017, Lynch has appeared in one game for the Broncos and completed 64.3 percent of his passes to go along with no touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 20 yards.
