Browns “Badly” Want To Upgrade From Brandon Weeden?

According to Jason La Canfora, the Cleveland Browns new front office “badly wants to upgrade from former first-round pick Brandon Weeden.

La Canfora mentions that Alex Smith could be in play for the Browns. Michael Vick was also listed as a speculative option for Cleveland, but he restructured his deal to remain with the Eagles earlier this morning.

The Browns new coaching staff has said that they are excited to work with Weeden, but there’s a good chance that they were just posturing when they mentioned that.

With Vick out of the picture, many see Alex Smith as the next best option for teams that are in need of a quarterback, but you have to wonder whether Smith would be the best fit for Browns offensive system. There’s been a lot made about Smith’s lack of arm strength and inability to be effective throwing the ball deep, and Norv Turner’s offense relies heavily on this.

This figures to be one of the more interesting offseason topics to watch.
