Browns Expect Colt McCoy to Make Significant Progress This Year

According to ESPN’s Bob Holtzman, the Browns “expect QB Colt McCoy to make a big leap this [year],” per Evan Silva.

Holtzman also adds that the Browns “are comfortable if he’s their starting quarterback.

This is pretty interesting news coming from the team that is expected to take a quarterback at some point that will most likely compete with McCoy and possibly replace him as the team’s starter.

Many NFL speculators have linked the Browns to QB Brandon Weeden, which would make sense despite the fact that he’s currently 28.

  1. This draft was to be the foundation of the Browns future. They started out great, getting one of the best running backs to come out of college in sometime. Then with the opportunity to solidify the offensive line by drafting David DeCastro, they draft a 28-year old quarterback. Next year’s draft will contain at least 3 quarterbacks that are better and younger then Weeden. When I think about drafting a quarterback in the first round, I think of a guy that will win me Superbowls. By the time the Browns get to that point “building through the draft” like Holmgren wants, Weeden will be way past his prime. You took a step forward by drafting Richardson but it could have been a bigger step by not drafting Weeden.

    • I really like the Trent Richardson pick a lot and I can’t wait to see him in action next season, as I’m sure you feel the same way.

Adam Schefter reported that the Browns were set on taking WR Kendrall Wright at #22, but everything changed when the Titans took him at #20. By then, the Bengals had already moved out of #21, so the Browns were left with little to no options in regards to moving back. They choose to take their QB even though I agree with you about on the concerns that come with Weeden. I will say that he’s probably a better QB than McCoy or should be in the near future. Tomorrow will still be plenty interesting. Thanks for the comment!
