Browns Reportedly Wanted To Sign Veteran LB Bart Scott “Badly”

Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports that the Cleveland Browns wanted to sign veteran LB Bart Scottbadly” before he decided to join CBS Sports as an analyst a few days ago, but his toe is “still messed up.

  • Pelissero mentions that new Browns HC Mike Pettine wanted Scott because he had spent so much time in Rex Ryan’s defense over the years.
  • Pelissero adds that the Chiefs made a “strong push” for Scott last year.

Scott, 33, sat out the entire 2013 season due to a toe injury he suffered back in 2012. He was able to play most of the 2012 with a torn toe ligament, but that led to even tears and ultimately surgery, according to Pelissero.

Scott said that he was planning to work out for a number of teams, but chose to call it a career and join CBS. He played 11 seasons in the league with the Ravens and Jets. Scott was voted to just one Pro Bowl in 2006.
