According to Tom Pelissero, the Browns are signing C Jon Toth to the roster.
Toth provides some extra depth at center for Cleveland, which is missing starter J.C. Tretter.
Cleveland confirmed the move and announced it was opening a roster spot by placing DE Curtis Weaver on injured reserve.
Weaver is dealing with a broken bone in his foot and is expected to miss the 2020 season.
Weaver, 21, was a three-year starter at Boise State. He was selected with the No. 164 overall pick in the fifth round by the Dolphins.
Weaver signed a four-year, $3,602,992 contract with the Dolphins that includes a $307,992 signing bonus. Miami waived Weaver with an injury designation on Monday.
During his college career at Boise State, Weaver recorded 128 tackles, 47.5 tackles for a loss, 34 sacks, two interceptions, three forced fumbles, a recovery, a defensive touchdown and six passes defended over the course of three seasons and 40 games.
Toth, 26, went undrafted out of Kentucky in 2017. He signed with the Eagles as a free agent to their practice squad in December for a few weeks before being released. However, the Eagles brought him back on a futures deal for 2018.
Toth was again cut coming out of the preseason by the Eagles. After a short stint on Philadelphia’s practice squad, Toth landed with the Jets and signed a futures deal for 2019.
New York waived Toth coming out of the preseason last year. He spent some time with the D.C. Defenders in the XFL.
Toth has yet to appear in an NFL game.
