Browns Working Out A Number Of QBs Including Manziel & Bridgewater This Week

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, the Cleveland Browns will work out Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel in “2-3 weeks.

  • Mortensen adds that the Browns will also host other quarterback prospects including: Teddy Bridgewater (Louisville), Jimmy Garoppolo (Eastern Illinois), Tom Savage (Pittsburgh) and Keith Wenning (Ball State) this week.
  • Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports, and a source confirmed, that the Browns already held a private workout for QB Blake Bortles on Wednesday.

Cleveland privately worked out Fresno State QB Derek Carr in recent days, so they are clearly casting a wide net in regards to their quarterback search.

The Browns hold the No. 4 and No. 26 overall picks in the 2014 NFL Draft, so there will be a few ways they can go in round one. Previous reports mentioned that the Browns would like to use their No. 26 pick on a quarterback like Carr, but it’s hard to put a lot of stock in reports relating to the NFL Draft.

Earlier this offseason, Head Coach Mike Pettine floated the idea of possibly selecting two quarterbacks in this draft.  While that may have been hyperbole, it is clear that the Browns will do their homework on several quarterback prospects.

The Browns currently have Brian Hoyer and Alex Tanney at the quarterback position, after releasing both Brandon Weeden and Jason Campbell this offseason.
