Buccaneers Rumors: Trent Richardson, Mike Williams

Trent Richardson

Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune believes that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will target Alabama RB Trent Richardson with the #5 overall pick.

A lot can change between now and the draft,” writes Cummings, “but that will likely remain a strong possibility right up to draft day.”

The general consensus has been that they couldn’t hesitate to draft LSU CB Morris Claiborne but LeGarrette Blount hasn’t shown that he can be the teams’ featured running back.  Cornerback is the team’s biggest need so I’d be surprised to see them pass on Claiborne if he’s available.

Mike Williams

The Tampa Tribune mentions that the Bucaneers don’t see Mike Williams as a #1 receiver.

Williams has draw plenty of criticism for his terrible 2011 season as well as his work ethic and physical strength. Williams poor play allowed other receivers like Arrelious Benn and Preston Parker to receive more targets last season. Mario Manningham continues to be rumored as possible free agent options for the Buc’s who have said that they plan to be aggressive in this years free agent market.

  1. Who they take at 5 all depends on who they get in FA. If Claiborne isn’t there at 5 I pretty much see TR as a no-brainer. Freeman needs that guy he can depend on and TR will be that guy. I am a Bucs fan and I hate to say it but if Freeman doesn’t get help, and they absolutely know TR would , then next year is going to look eerily like last year and I think Freeman will struggle again.

    • I completely agree with what you just said. Do you think Freeman can be Top 10 quarterback or he in the Top 15-20 range?

  2. look many articles and mock drafts i’ve seen have said the bucs are going to take richardson 1st i highly doubt and agree with tis article the bucs are hurting really bad on D and don’t get me wrong the bucs need help on offense to but i’d rather focus on the D who was labeled as the worst D in the league last season, pick up claiborne in the 1st and wreck the free agency for receivers like vincent jackson and other positions that we need help at. BUCS NATION!

    • Couldn’t agree with you more. That’s why I posted it because it was so surprising to hear that they’re set on a RB with #5 pick.
