Buccaneers Sign CFL WR Derel Walker & G Jarvis Harrison To Futures Deals

Jenna Laine of ESPN reports that the Buccaneers are signing CFL WR Derel Walker to a futures contract on Thursday.

Walker becomes the 9th player to sign a futures deal with the Buccaneers since their season recently ended including:

  1. OL Mike Liedtke
  2. RB Blake Sims
  3. S Isaiah Johnson
  4. TE Tevin Westbrook
  5. OL Josh Allen
  6. CB Cody Riggs
  7. TE Kivon Cartwright
  8. K John Lunsford
  9. WR Derel Walker
  10. G Jarvis Harrison

Future/reserve contracts are essentially an opportunity for players compete for a roster spot in offseason workouts and during training camp.

Walker, 25, wound up signing on with the Titans as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M back in 2014. However, he was cut loose during the preseason and never signed to their practice squad.

Walker then headed up north and signed on with the Edmonton Eskimos and has spent the two years in the CFL. He’s caught 198 passes for 2,699 yards receiving and 16 touchdowns for the Eskimos over the course of 30 games.

During his college career, Walker totaled 59 receptions for 903 yards receiving and five touchdowns for Texas A&M.
