Buccaneers Tried Out Kickers Cairo Santos & Sam Ficken

According to Howard Balzer, the Buccaneers brought in two free agent kickers for tryouts on Friday including Sam Ficken and Cairo Santos.

Santos, 26, wound up signing on with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Tulane back in 2014. He returned to the Chiefs this past March on a one-year restricted deal worth $1.797 million.

Kansas City elected to place him on injured reserve with a groin strain at the start of the season and cut him loose with a settlement soon after. The Bears later signed him to a contract before placing him on injured reserve for the second time during the 2017 season.

The Jets signed Santos to a contract this past March but released him during the preseason. He signed on with the Rams a few weeks ago.

In 2018, Santos has appeared in two games for the Rams and converted 5 of 6 field goal attempts and 5 of 6 extra point tries.

Ficken, 25, wound up signing on with the Jaguars in 2016 as an undrafted free agent out of Penn State. He lasted just over a month in Jacksonville before he was waived during the first round of roster cuts.

After a brief stint with the Chiefs, Ficken joined the Rams towards the end of last season after Zuerlein suffered a season-ending injury. Los Angeles brought Ficken back on an exclusive rights contract, but he was waived coming out of the preseason.

Ficken returned to the Rams for a brief stint after Zuerlein suffered an injury.

In 2018, Ficken has appeared in two games for the Rams and converted 1 of 3 field goal attempts and all 10 of his extra point tries.
