Cardinals OT Marcus Gilbert Opting Out Of 2020 Season

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Cardinals’ OT Marcus Gilbert is opting out of the 2020 season.

Gilbert issued the following statement, via his Twitter account:

Gilbert was placed on the non-football illness list last Sunday.

Gilbert, 32, is a former second-round pick of the Steelers back in 2011. He is in the final year of his six-year, $30.815 million contract that included a $7.65 million signing bonus and set to make a base salary of $4,865,103 for the 2019 season.

The Steelers traded Gilbert to the Cardinals for a sixth-round pick last year. However, he was later placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.

Arizona re-signed Gilbert this past March to a one-year contract worth up to $3.75 million.

In 2018, Gilbert appeared in five games for the Steelers. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 41 overall offensive tackle out of 80 qualifying players.
