Cardinals Sign C A.Q. Shipley To One-Year Extension

The Arizona Cardinals announced Friday that they’ve signed C A.Q. Shipley to a one-year contract extension that keeps him under contract through 2019.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Shipley’s extension is worth $2 million for the 2019 season including incentives.

Arizona placed Shipley on injured reserve with a few weeks after with a torn ACL.

Shipley will have a shot at being ready in time for the start of training camp next year, but there are obviously no guarantees.

The Cardinals are expected move forward with rookie Mason Cole as their starting center this season.

Shipley, 32, is a former seventh-round pick of the Steelers back in 2009. He lasted just over a year with the Steelers before playing for a few teams including the Eagles, Colts and Ravens.

The Cardinals signed him to a two-year contract in 2015 and brought him back on a  two-year, $3.5 million contract last year. He stands to make a base salary of $1.5 million for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Shipley appeared in all 16 games for the Cardinals and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 28 center out of 35 qualifying players.
