Cardinals Sign DE Benson Mayowa

The Arizona Cardinals announced Monday that they’ve signed DE Benson Mayowa to a one-year contract.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Mayowa receives a one-year contract worth $1.6 million.

This offseason, Mayowa visited with a number of teams including the Cardinals, Seahawks, JetsRedskins and Colts. However, it appears as though the Cardinals proved to be his best option in the end.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Mayowa to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.

Mayowa, 26, wound up signing on with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Idaho back in 2013. He lasted over a year in Seattle before he was waived at the start of the 2014 season and later claimed off of waivers by the Raiders.

Oakland declined to tender Mayowa a restricted offer a few years ago and he later signed a three-year, $8.25 million contract with the Cowboys. However, Dallas elected to cut him loose a few days ago in a move that created $2.75 million in cap room for the Cowboys.

In 2017, Mayowa appeared in 14 games for the Cowboys and recorded 21 tackles and one sack. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 66 interior defender out of 106 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
