Cardinals Sign CBs David Amerson & Leonard Johnson

The Arizona Cardinals announced Wednesday that they’ve signed CBs David Amerson and Leonard Johnson to contracts.

  • The Cardinals also signed OL Rick Leonard to their practice squad.

Here’s the Cardinals updated practice squad:

  3. CB Chris Jones
  4. C Coleman Shelton
  5. RB Brandon Wilds
  6. DB Deatrick Nichols
  7. LB Vontarrius Dora
  8. DT Vincent Valentine

  10. OL Rick Leonard

Both players tried out for the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Amerson, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Redskins back in 2013. Washington waived him during the 2015 season and he was later claimed off of waivers by the Redskins.

Amerson signed four-year, $38 million extension with close to $18 million guaranteed with the Raiders back in 2016. However, he was released last year and later caught on with the Chiefs.

Kansas City signed Amerson to a one-year deal worth up to $6 million during the offseason, but wound up being released coming out of the preseason.

In 2017, Amerson appeared in six games for the Raiders and recorded 18 tackles, no interceptions, a fumble recovery and four pass defenses.

Johnson, 28, signed on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa State back in 2012. He spent close to four years in Tampa Bay before he was released at the end of the 2015 season and later signed by the Patriots.

After one year with the Panthers, Leonard signed a one-year contract with the Bills. he had a brief stint with the Giants during the preseason.

In 2017, Johnson appeared in 15 games for the Bills and recorded 53 tackles, no interceptions, a forced fumble, a recovery and seven pass defenses.
