Chargers DE Dwight Freeney Agrees To Reduce Salary

According to Joel Corry of the National Football Post, the Chargers and DE Dwight Freeney have reached an agreement to reduce the player’s 2014 salary.

Freeney’s 2013 base salary has lowered from $3.5 million to $2.5 million, which will save the Chargers close to $1 million in cap space.

  • Corry notes that Freeney’s cap figure for next season will be $3,843,750.

Freeney, 34, signed a two-year, $8.75 million contract that included $4.75 million guaranteed with the Chargers last year.

Unfortunately for Freeney, he only played in four games after he suffered a torn quad in late September. He finished the year with just two tackles and a half-sack.

He’ll hopefully be able to return at full strength next year and provide them with a solid pass-rushing option off the edge.
