Chargers Place C Nick Hardwick On Season-Ending Injured Reserve

The  San Diego Chargers announced Wednesday that they have placed starting S Nick Hardwick season-ending injured reserve with a neck injury.

“It’s hard and it’s still setting in” Hardwick said of the situation.  “I have a touch of shock I guess and I don’t really know how I feel right now.  You’re programmed one way and through everything you’ve done you’ve always continued to push forward and push through to find ways to get on the field.  Unfortunately for this season it’s not going to happen anymore.”

Hardwick, 33, left Monday night’s season opener, which forced Rich Ohrnberger to finish out the game. The Chargers had a snap issue lat into the game, but it’s hard to put this solely on Ohrnberger as QB Philip Rivers appeared to be miss the ball.

Hardwick is in the second year of his three-year, $13.5 million contract that included$6.5 million guaranteed. He has a base salary of $3.4 million for the 2014 season.
