Chargers Placed CB Craig Mager On I.R. & Promote ILB Carlos Fields

According to Michael Gehlken, the Chargers have placed CB Craig Mager on season-ending injured reserve and promoted ILB Carlos Fields from their practice squad to the active roster.

Mager, 24, is a former third-round pick by the Chargers in the 2015 NFL Draft. He is in the second year of a four-year, $2.994 million rookie contract that included a $680,120 signing bonus and made a base salary of $525,000 this season.

He has not played since Week 14 after sustaining a shoulder injury. He also missed time in 2016 due to a concussion.

In 2o16, Mager appeared in 11 games for the Chargers and recorded 31 total tackles, one interceptions, one fumble recovery and four pass defenses. He also accumulated 63 kickoff return yards. ProFootballFocus rates him as the No. 114 overall cornerback out of 119 qualifying players.

Fields, 26, originally signed on with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Winston-Salem back in 2014. Since then, Fields has played for a number of teams including the Buccaneers, Giants, Colts, Redskins and Bills.

The Redskins signed Fields to their practice squad but elected to cut him loose to make room for CB Dashaun Phillips” href=”” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>Dashaun Phillips. San Diego decided to sign Fields to their practice squad last month.
