Chargers TE Jeff Cumberland Suffers Torn Achilles, Out For Season

Michael Gehlken reports that Chargers veteran TE Jeff Cumberland suffered a torn Achilles tendon during Friday’s preseason game.

The Chargers will likely place Cumberland on their injured reserve list and add someone to their roster at some point in the near future.

Cumberland, 28, originally signed on with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois back in 2010. He was in the final year of his three-year, $5.7 million contract when he was released in a move that freed up $1.9 million in available cap space for the Jets.

The Chargers later signed him to a one-year, $840,000 contract in early April.

In 2015, Cumberland appeared in 15 games and recorded five receptions for 77 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
