Chiefs Activate LB Joe Mays From I.R.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced that ILB Joe Mays has been activated from the injured reserve/designated to return list.

Kansas City placed Mays on the designated to return list back in early September after having surgery to repair a torn tendon in his wrist.

Mays, 29, signed a two-year, $6 million contract that contains $3 million in guaranteed cash, with a $2 million signing bonus last March. In 2013, Mays accumulated 66 total tackles, one sack and three pass deflections and graded as the No. 21 overall inside linebacker after the end of the season, according to Pro Football Focus.

Franklin, 26, was promoted from the practice squad once Mays was placed on the designated to return list. In seven games this season, Franklin tallied four tackles. Mays should step into the starting lineup once he’s fully ready to go.
