The Kansas City Chiefs officially signed nine players to futures contracts for the 2020 season on

- TE Nick Keizer
- LB Emmanuel Smith
- DT Braxton Hoyett
- QB Kyle Shurmur
- DB Elijah McGuire
- DL Devaroe Lawrence
- DB Chris Lammons
- RB Mike Weber
Futures deals are essentially camp invites that will give players the opportunity to compete for roster spots during offseason workouts and training camp.
Shurmur, 23, wound up going undrafted out of Vanderbilt back in May. He later agreed to a three-year, $1.755 million contract with the Chiefs, but was waived coming out of the preseason.
The Chiefs re-signed Shurmur to their practice squad. He had a brief stint on the active roster while Patrick Mahomes was out with injury before returning to the team’s practice squad.
During his college career at Vanderbilt, Shurmur threw for 8,865 yards while completing 57.1 percent of his passes to go along with 64 touchdowns and 29 interceptions over the course of four seasons and 44 games.
McGuire, 25, is a former sixth-round pick of the Jets back in 2017. He was in the third year of his four-year, $2.66 million contract when the Jets waived him coming out of the preseason.
McGuire had a brief stint on the Browns’ practice squad before joining the Chiefs in November.
In 2018, McGuire appeared in eight games for the Jets and rushed for 276 yards on 92 carries (3 YPC) to go along with 19 receptions for 193 yards receiving and four total touchdowns.
