Colin Kaepernick Still Working Out, Interested In Playing

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a source with direct knowledge, reports that free agent QB Colin Kaepernick still wants to play in the NFL and is working out five hours per day, six days per week to get another shot.

Earlier in the day, Mike Jones of USA Today reported that people familiar with Kaepernick aren’t sure he wants to play anymore.

This came after the Redskins lost Alex Smith for the season. However, reports have said that Washington has no interest in Kaepernick and the team has already set up tryouts with some journeymen backups.

Some thought the Panthers signing S Eric Reid could help to open the door for a team to sign Kaepernick, but there hasn’t been any reported interest in him since he had a visit scheduled with the Seahawks that was later canceled.

A number of teams who have been in need of a quarterback have passed on even bringing him in for a tryout. Beyond that, Kaepernick has a pending collusion lawsuit against the NFL.

Kaepernick, 31, is a former second-round pick of the 49ers back in 2010. He was in the third year of his seven-year, $126.97 million contract that included $61 million guaranteed when reached an agreement with the 49ers on a restructured deal that allowed him to become an unrestricted free agent in 2016.

In 2016, Kaepernick completed 59.2 percent of his passes for 2,241 yards and 16 touchdowns and four interceptions, while adding 468 yards rushing. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 27 quarterback out of 36 qualifying players.

  1. CK is really a delusional character to say the least. The only way CK MIGHT make his way back to an NFL roster is….. If Jim Harbaugh makes his way back to the pro game. CK had a 7yr./$126.75M deal with the 49ers and literally OPTED out of his own deal. All while knowing that new 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan is a QB friendly coach. And KC has been whining for 2 years now, about NFL collusion against him. What a joke! KC should hire Robert Mueller to handle his collusion lawsuit. Since Mueller is such an expert on collusion. Americans and NFL fans know how well that will turn out. Maybe. KC should ask Barack Obozo for a cushy job at The Obozo Foundation.

    • He can’t get back into the league because Goodell doesn’t want him back in the league. With Tom Benson gone, the only one with the balls to sign him might be Davis with the Raiders. I thought that Snyder might have them, but since they’re signing someone else, I guess he is just a eunuch like most of the rest.
