Colts Claim K Chase McLaughlin, Waive TE Matt Lengel

The Colts announced on Wednesday they have claimed K Chase McLaughlin off waivers from the 49ers and waived TE Matt Lengel in a corresponding move.

This is an interesting move, as Indianapolis has struggled at the kicker position in 2019. Future Hall of Fame K Adam Vinatieri has struggled on and off this year and the Colts could take a look at McLaughlin as a future replacement.

McLaughlin, 23, originally signed on with the Bills as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois back in May. He was among Buffalo’s final roster cuts coming out of the preseason and caught on with the Vikings’ practice squad.

Minnesota wound up cutting him after a week with the team on September 10. He later signed on with the Chargers before being released again. He joined the 49ers a few weeks ago as a short-term replacement for K Robbie Gould.

In 2019, McLaughlin has appeared in four games for the Chargers and three games for the 49ers. He’s converted 13 of 17 field goal attempts to go along with all 15 extra point tries.
