Colts Sign CB Rashaan Melvin, Waive QB Stephen Morris

The Indianapolis Colts announced Wednesday that they’ve signed CB Rashaan Melvin to a contract and placed QB Stephen Morris on waivers.

Morris, 24, wound up signing on with the Jaguars as a priority undrafted free agent out of Miami back in May of 2014. He was unable to make the 53-man roster during his rookie season, but was later signed to the  Jaguars’ practice squad.

The Eagles would later claim him off of waivers after he was once again unable to make the cut coming out of the preseason. After spending much of the year on the practice squad, the Colts later added him to their active roster towards the end of the year.

Morris has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Melvin, 26, originally signed on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Northern Illinois back in 2013. He later caught on with the Dolphins for a brief period of time before being signed off of Miami’s practice squad by the Ravens.

The Patriots claimed Melvin off of waivers from the Ravens back in October of last year.  He returned to New England on a future/reserve contract, but was cut loose back in May.

The Dolphins later signed him to a contract this summer, only to cut him loose last week.

In 2015, has appeared in nine games and recorded seven tackles for the Patriots.
