Competition Committee Chairman Rich McKay Confirms Pass Interference Review Won’t Return

NFL Chairman of the Competition Committee Rich McKay confirmed during an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio that replay of pass interference will not return for the 2020 season.

Judy Battista reported last month that pass interference replay “almost certainly will not be extended.”

The NFL struggled to consistently implement the rule change and by the end of last year, teams surveyed were overwhelmingly against making pass interference replay permanent or extending it another year, per Battista.

The NFL has considered adding a sky judge, which is an idea that has the support of NFL coaches. However, there is still more discussion needed to sort through some concerns. Battista mentioned that there are some questions with the sky judge idea including the parameters of their power and where the NFL would get sky judges from.

It was suggested that the NFL could experiment with the sky judge during the preseason, but it remains to be seen whether there will be a preseason this year.

We’ll have more regarding potential rule changes as the news is available.
