Cowboys “Close” To Trade For DE Robert Quinn

UPDATE: According to Clarence Hill, the trade for DE Robert Quinn will not happen by the league’s 4 p.m. ET deadline to make moves official.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys and Dolphins have parameters in place on a trade that would send DE Robert Quinn to the Cowboys.

Tom Pelissero reports Quinn will sign a new one-year deal with the Cowboys to help facilitate the deal.  Rapoport adds the Dolphins will likely receive a future late-round pick in exchange for Quinn.

Rapoport says there are minor issues still to work out with Quinn’s agent, but the deal is expected to be finalized soon.

Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram reported the Cowboys are hoping that the Dolphins will pay a portion of Quinn’s contract to facilitate a trade and reports out of Miami have said this is something the Dolphins are willing to do.

Hill writes that acquiring Quinn would give the Cowboys a replacement for Randy Gregory, who is currently suspended indefinitely, along with a solid compliment to DeMarcus Lawrence.

Quinn, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Rams back in 2011. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $66.575 million extension that included $41.268 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $11.811 million for the 2019 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Quinn will free up $12,932,332 of available cap space for the Dolphins while creating no dead money.

In 2018, Quinn appeared in all 16 games for the Dolphins and recorded 38 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 38 edge rusher out of 103 qualifying players.
