Cowboys Have Interest In Safety Help Ahead Of Deadline

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says safety will be the area of focus for the team if it decides to make another move before the trade deadline, per Clarence Hill.

Jones added that nothing specific is on the table at the moment. While Xavier Woods has been solid at free safety, Hill mentions the Cowboys could stand to upgrade from Jeff Heath at strong safety.

The Dolphins are shopping S Reshad Jones, but he is unlikely to be moved given his $13.1 million salary this year. Jets S Marcus Maye is another notable safety whose name has come up at the deadline, though there’s nothing connecting the Cowboys specifically to Maye.

The Cowboys have been linked to a number of safeties over the past year. Dallas was a rumored destination for S Earl Thomas before he landed with the Ravens and the team worked out S Eric Berry this offseason, who remains unsigned. The Cowboys were monitoring Berry as recently as late July.

The Cowboys traded a conditional late-round pick to the Patriots last week for DT Michael Bennett

We’ll have more regarding the Cowboys as the news is available.
