Cowboys LB Leighton Vander Esch Undergoes Neck Surgery

According to Todd Archer, Cowboys LB Leighton Vander Esch had surgery on his neck Tuesday to correct a nerve issue that caused him to land on injured reserve in 2019.

Vander Esch sat out seven games with the hope rest would solve his issues. However, he has opted for a non-invasive procedure with the hopes he’ll be ready to return during OTA’s.

Vander Esch, 23, is a former first-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2018. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $11.8 million contract that included a $6.7 million signing bonus.

The Cowboys will have a fifth-year option to pick up on Vander Esch for the 2022 season.

In 2019, Vander Esch appeared in nine games for the Cowboys and recorded 72 tackles, a half sack, a forced fumble and three pass defenses.
