Cowboys LB Leighton Vander Esch Undergoing Surgery For Broken Collarbone

Michael Gehlken reports that Cowboys LB Leighton Vander Esch fractured his collarbone during Sunday’s loss to the Rams and will undergo surgery.

According to Ian Rapoport, Vander Esch will be placed on injured reserve. However, he should return later on in the season.

Vander Esch, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2018. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $11.8 million contract that included a $6.7 million signing bonus.

The Cowboys will have a fifth-year option to pick up on Vander Esch for the 2022 season.

In 2019, Vander Esch appeared in nine games for the Cowboys and recorded 72 tackles, a half sack, a forced fumble and three pass defenses.

We’ll have more regarding Vander Esch as the news is available.
