Cowboys No Longer Placing DL Datone Jones On IR, Sign Two Players To PS

Todd Archer reports that the Cowboys are no longer placing veteran DL Datone Jones (knee) on injured reserve as they were planning to do before DT Brian Price was claimed by the Raiders on Monday.

Dallas also signed DT Aziz Shittu and G Cody Wichmann to their practice squad and released DE Charles Tapper from the unit.

The Cowboys’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. WR Dres Anderson
  2. OT Jake Campos
  3. RB Jordan Chunn
  4. WR Lance Lenoir
  5. CB Donovan Olumba
  6. LB Kyle Queiro
  7. RB Bo Scarbrough
  8. S Treston Decoud
  9. DT Aziz Shittu
  10. G Cody Wichmann

Jones, 28, was taken with the No. 26 overall pick back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $7.71 million rookie contract but the Packers declined to pick up Jones’ fifth-year option for the 2017 season.

Minnesota signed him to a one-year, $3.75 million deal last year but he was, unfortunately, placed on injured reserve and later released with a settlement. After brief stints with the Lions and 49ers, Jones signed on with the Cowboys and finished out the year in Dallas.

In 2017, Jones has appeared in three games and recorded six tackles and no sacks.
