Cowboys Place WR Allen Hurns On IR, Promote WR Lance Lenior

The Dallas Cowboys have officially placed WR Allen Hurns on injured reserve Tuesday and promoted WR Lance Lenior to their active roster, per Calvin Watkins.

  • The Cowboys also signed WR Brandon Reilly to their practice squad.

Herns suffered a serious ankle injury during Saturday’s wildcard game and has since undergone surgery. The good news for Hurns is that he’s expected to be ready to return to football by August if there no complications or anything out of the ordinary.

Hurns, 27, signed on with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent out of Miami back in 2014. He was in the final year of his rookie contract when the Jaguars signed him to a five-year, $40.6 million deal that included $20 million guaranteed in 2016.

Hurns was set to make base salaries of $6.9 million and $7.9 million over the next two years of the agreement when the Jaguars released him back in March. The Cowboys later signed him to two-year, $12 million contract.

In 2018, Hurns appeared in 16 games for the Cowboys and caught 20 passes for 295 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

Lenoir, 23, wound up going undrafted out of Western Illinois a few months ago. He took part in the Bears rookie minicamp on a tryout basis before signing on with the Cowboys this past June.

Dallas waived Lenior in December and later signed him to their practice squad.

In 2018, Lenior was active for seven games, but did not record a statistic.

During his four-year college career at Western Illinois, Lenoir caught 273 passes for 3,796 yards receiving and 28 touchdowns over the course of 48 games. He also rushed for 58 yards on seven carries and totaled 809 kick return yards and another 214 punt return yards to go along with one touchdown.
