Dolphins Discussing Trades For DE Robert Quinn, Likely To Be Released If No Deal

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Dolphins have had trade talks about moving veteran DE Robert Quinn before the start of free agency.

According to Rapoport, the Dolphins will likely release Quinn if they’re unable to trade him, given that he’s owed $12 million for the 2019 season.

Rapoport says that Quinn should be “coveted” if he ends up becoming a free agent, considering that there are a number of teams in need of a pass rusher this offseason.

Quinn, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Rams back in 2011. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $66.575 million extension that included $41.268 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $11.811 million for the 2019 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Quinn will free up $12,932,332 of available cap space for the Dolphins while creating no dead money.

In 2018, Quinn appeared in all 16 games for the Dolphins and recorded 38 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 38 edge rusher out of 103 qualifying players.
