Report: Dolphins Likely Keeping GM Jeff Ireland

Update:

Mike Silver of the NFL Network is “hearing” that Jeff Ireland is expected to stay on as Dolphins GM.

—————

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Dolphins HC Joe Philbin and GM Jeff Ireland “appear to be safe,” despite a recent meeting with team owner Stephen Ross.

  • Mortensen adds that “tension” exists between Philbin and Ireland.

There was a lot of speculation that changes were coming in Miami after an extremely disappointing end to the season, but it now appears as though Ross has had second thoughts about shaking things up.

Armando Salguero mentioned a few days ago that Ross “does not want to go back on his word” after telling Ireland he was safe, so this could be part of the reason why it appears as though he’ll be given another shot in 2014.

Still, tension within an organization that is already dealing with other issues isn’t exactly the most encouraging thing to hear if you happen to be a Dolphins fan.

We’ll have to see if OC Mike Sherman is able to survive as well given that there has been a lot of buzz that he’ll be replaced.
