Dolphins Trading OT Jake Long?

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald takes a look at the possibility of the Dolphins trading OT Jake Long during the offseason.

Salguero mentions that Long will be entering the final year of his contract which will pay $11.02 million for the 2012 season. Considering that the teams biggest need is at quarterback, Salguero mentions that Long could included in a trade that would allow them to move up in the draft and possibly take Andrew Luck.

If the Dolphins are in a situation where they might need to trade a significant asset on draft day to climb higher in the draft to pluck a potential franchise quarterback, say Andrew Luck, Long might be a chip that takes the place of multiple draft picks — perhaps a first and a second-rounder. I’m not saying it should or will happen. … I’m saying the Dolphins would be foolish to not consider it. The team is 5-10, people. There should be no sacred cows.”

Long recently suffered a torn bicep which is definitely a concern but there’s question about his ability when healthy. The idea is very interesting and the Dolphins are likely to explore all possibility during the offseason so we’ll have to see if anything comes of the suggestion.
