Drew Brees Reportedly “Livid” About Being Franchised

WIST-AM New Orleans reports that Saints QB Drew Brees is “livid” after team chose to franchise him over the weekend and has no intention of signing the tender.

The two sides have been working a new contract for over a year now but the Saints appear to be willing to use the franchise tag as leverage in their negotiations, much to the dismay of Brees. What’s interesting is that New Orleans could keep applying the tag to Brees each season and pay him less money that he’s seeking. The price will increase by 20% each season after this one but Brees is looking for a deal above $18 million per season.

Brees is obviously hoping that they’ll be able to reach an agreement by July 16 but, if this report is true, there’s a good chance Brees may sit out training camp if a new contract isn’t in place.

  1. what are the saints doing? i thought hey their probably not going to re-sign any of their other key players because they want to keep brees. i thought hey that sucks but atleast your going to keep the guy that not only brought home a super bowl for you but also began turning you from zeros to heroes. and when i heard about the franchise tag on him i thought ok maybe they’ll resign carl nicks or another good player on their team and work out a long term deal with brees later, but it turns out their not doing any of that ughh come on I don’t want to hear over the summer how not only did you guys get caught for bounties but also for not resigning a key player to your team. if thats the case let brees go somewhere else and watch you guys will be washed up at the bottom of your division.

  2. If you are the Saints you have to get something done here don’t you?? I mean this isn’t like the Indy situation where Peyton hasn’t been playing..This is the man who changed the culture of that team. He isn’t asking for record deals, so sign him already..If they can’t get something done, they will never hear the end of it.
