Eagles Tried Out QBs Josh Johnson & Thad Lewis

ESPN’s Field Yates is reporting that the Eagles brought in free agent quarterbacks Josh Johnson and Thad Lewis for tryouts on Tuesday.

The Eagles were reportedly looking for a better No. 3 quarterback after they elected to release Tim Tebow and trade Matt Barkley to the Cardinals.

Philadelphia did sign Stephen Morris to their practice squad for some added depth at the position.

Johnson, 29, was cut loose by the Bengals not too long ago, and later signed on with the Jets. However, his stay in New York was short lived, as he was among their final roster cuts this past weekend along with QB Matt Flynn.

The Bengals signed Johnson to a contract back in April, but they ultimately elected to move forward with A.J. McCarron as their backup quarterback.

Johnson hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since the 2013 season while playing for the Bengals.

Lewis, 27, hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since the 2013 season when he was playing for the Buffalo Bills.
