Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery Expected To Miss At Least First Two Games

Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen are reporting that Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery is expected to miss at least the first two games of the season.

However, Schefter says that the Eagles will activate him from the PUP list and keep him on their 53-man roster this weekend with optimism that he could be back by Week 3.

A report surfaced a few weeks ago that Jeffery, who is working his way back from offseason rotator cuff surgery, may not be ready for the opener, so this doesn’t come as a big surprise.

There was some talk that Jeffery could remain on the Eagles’ PUP list for the start of the season, which would cost him the first six games of the regular season. Although, it sounds like the Eagles plan is to carry him on their roster for a few weeks.

Jeffery, 28, was taken in the second-round of the 2012 NFL draft by the Bears. He played out the final year of his four-year, $4.54 million rookie contract with Chicago before agreeing to a one-year, $9.5 million contract with the Eagles last year.

Jeffery was in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason before he agreed to a four-year, $52 million extension last year.

In 2017, Jeffery has appeared in all 16 games for the Eagles and caught 57 passes for 789 yards receiving and nine touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 21 receiver out of 116 qualifying players.
