Falcons & DT Grady Jarrett Not Close To Agreement On Extension

D. Orlando Ledbetter, citing a source with knowledge of the negotiations, reports that the Falcons and DT Grady Jarrett are not close to an agreement on a long-term extension at this point in time.

However, Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff has said that they’re “very confident” about getting a deal done with Garrett.

“We’re working diligently on Grady Jarrett,” Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said. “That is our focus and will continue to be our focus right now. I’m confident that is going to get done.

“We feel very confident about that.”

Last week, Falcons HC Dan Quinn told reporters that Jarrett is “on the table”, per Ledbetter.

The franchise tag would run the Falcons $15,355,000 fully guaranteed for the 2019 season if they were to use it on Jarrett.

Jarrett, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Falcons back in 2015. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $2.527 million contract and set to make a base salary of $1.907 million for the 2018 season.

Jarrett will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2018, Jarrett appeared in 14 games for the Falcons and recorded 53 tackles, six sacks and three forced fumbles. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 interior defensive lineman out of 118 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2019 NFL Free Agents list.
