San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore chose to start the season by holding out but that decision only lasted four days before he returned to the team.ย Eric Branch ofย the San Francisco Chronicleย reports that Gore is still looking for a new contract before the season starts.
“Hopefully, it will get done before the season,” Gore said. “If it doesn’t, I’ve just got to go play and if I have to be a free agent, I’ll be a free agent.”
As of now Gore remains the teams best offensive player but 29 and coming off of hip surgery, you can see why the 49ers aren’t rushing to get a deal done. When healthy he’s shown to be one of the best backs in the league but the fact that he plays running back is likely impacting the teamsย urgencyย to negotiate a new contract with Gore. I could actually see the 49ers passing on Gore following the season and taking their chances in the draft if they can’t keep him for a reasonable price.
We have Gore listed as the No. 31 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list. I confess that his ranking seems little low but considering his injury history, age and the position that he plays it really makes sense.
