Linval Joseph May Have To Sign A Team-Friendly Deal To Be Back With Giants

As Jordan Raanan of the Newark Star-Ledger writes, Giants free agent DT Linval Joseph may have to sign a team-friendly contract to be back in New York next season.

Joseph, 25, is coming off another strong season for the Giants defense and looks to be one of the best interior lineman available in free agency.

Raanan puts the odds of the Giants retaining Joseph at 40 percent and believes he could command a four-year deal worth $24 million that includes $10 million guaranteed this March.

In terms of market value contracts for defensive tackles, this deal would Joseph tied for tenth in both average salary and guarantees.

The Giants do have some replacements currently on their roster in Johnathan HankinsCullen Jenkins, and Mike Patterson, who will also be a free agent. New York could instead allocate some of this money to other areas like offensive line, linebacker and their secondary where they have obvious needs.

We have Joseph currently listed as the No. 34 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
