Free Agent TE Jermaine Gresham Undergoing Surgery To Repair Herniated Disc

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports free agent TE Jermaine Gresham was diagnosed with a herniated disc on Wednesday, and is scheduled to undergo surgery tomorrow.

According to Rapoport, there is no firm timetable for his return at this point in time. He probably won’t know until after the surgery.

  • Rapoport reported Tuesday that Gresham was meeting with a doctor on Wednesday regarding a back injury.
  • Rapoport mentions that the Raiders, Browns, ans Bills are awaiting news regarding his back injury.

The injury was reportedly discovered in the free agent process, and is likely the reason why he has yet to sign with an NFL team.

Gresham reportedly had interest from the Raiders and Browns, but there has been little buzz surrounding him in recent days.

Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reported over the weekend that despite a long courtship from the Raiders, contract talks with Gresham “are dead for now.

Gresham, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Bengals back in 2010, but he never managed to live up to his draft status during his time with the team.

In 2014, Gresham caught 62 passes for 460 yards receiving and five touchdowns over the course of 15 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 37 tight end out of 67 qualifying players.

We have Gresham listed as the No. 58 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
