Giants Ask CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie To Take “Significant” Pay Cut

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the Giants have asked CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to take a significant pay cut from the $6.5 million he’s due in 2018. According to Garafolo, no final decision has been made as of now, but the two sides are “far apart” in talks.

  • Art Stapleton adds that it sounds like Rodgers-Cromartie “is not keen on taking any pay cut” and he can’t imagine a resolution coming any later than the beginning of next week.

There have been some conflicting reports about the Giants possibly moving Rodgers-Cromartie to safety this year, which could be part of the reason why they’re asking him to take a large salary adjustment.

Rodgers-Cromartie, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2008. He’s currently in the final year of his five-year, $35 million contract that included $13.98 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $6.48 million for the 2018 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Rodgers-Cromartie would free up $6.5 million of available cap space while creating $2 million in dead money.

In 2017, Rodgers-Cromartie appeared 15 games and recorded 48 tackles, a half sack, no interceptions and pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 58 cornerback out of 120 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Rodgers-Cromartie and the Giants as the news is available.
