Giants Sign CB Brian Williams

The Giants ended up signing Brian Williams yesterday.

Brian Williams, that’s one,” said head coach Tom Coughlin. “He’s a veteran, he knows how to play, he has been a good, physical blitzer. We needed somebody who can learn some things real quick and go from there.”

Williams spent the last two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons but has been dealing with a knee injury in the last year. The market for cornerbacks is pretty thin at this point but at least he allows the Giants to do things defensively.

Mike Garafolo of the Star Ledger reports that the New York Giants have brought in four different cornerbacks to day for workouts. The report mentions that Lito Sheppard and Brian Witherspoon were among them and also mentions that Randall Gay was not one of the remaining two players.

The Giants secondary has been decimated with injuries in recent weeks as they have already lost Terrell Thomas and Brian Witherspoon for the entire 2011 season and rookie CB Prince Amukamara isn’t scheduled to return to the team until later in the season.

The Giants will most likely be forced to sign one of the four players that they brought in today as they are currently moving forward with Corey Webster and Aaron Ross manning the starting spots.
