Giants & Browns Revise Olivier Vernon/Kevin Zeitler Trade

Art Stapleton reports that the Giants and Browns agreed to revise their prior trade that featured that Olivier Vernon going to Cleveland and Kevin Zeitler to New York.

The prior deal included a fourth-round that went to the Browns and a fifth-round pick being sent to the Giants.

Stapleton says the two teams agreed to remove the picks from the deal following the Odell Beckham trade and will treat the two agreements as essentially one trade that consists of:

Browns get:

Giants get:

  • G Kevin Zeitler
  • S Jabrill Peppers
  • 2019 first-round pick (No. 17)
  • 2019 third-round (No. 95)

The trade can be officially processed later today at the start of the 2019 league year.

  1. I know there are a lot of people whining about Odell Beckham Jr. being traded to Cleveland. Especially Bill Barnwell of ESPN, who graded the swap a D or D- for the GMEN.

First! Everyone is entitled to their opinion about anything in life. But! Here is a NEWSFLASH for Mr. Barnwell……. The GMEN did not get FLEECED at all. In the OBJ and here is the reasoning.

1.) Beckham is and will be a major distraction. The Brownies will learn the hard way. And I guarantee right now that Beckham will NOT last the 5 years of his new deal in Cleveland.

2.) Since! Everyone is on Gettleman’s every word with baited breath since the Beckham contract signing. Remember! What Gettleman first said as the new GM of the GMEN. Gettleman clearly stated, “One of my jobs as GM is to get rid of the distractions”. That is exactly what Gettleman did.

3.) As of today the GMEN actually get back their 4th rounder in the Vernon trade. And the actual trade to the Brownies is Beckham and Vernon for Peppers, Zeitler and the 2019 1st and 3rd rounders. WIN GMEN.

4.) Now! Peppers was a 1st round pick in 2017 as an underclassmen. Which means if Peppers stayed at UM another year, Peppers would have been in the same draft as Saquon Barkley 2018. And as I recall all of you ANALysts RAVED about Peppers coming out of Michigan. And the GMEN recently lost Landon Collins and Peppers is still under his rookie deal. WIN GMEN.

5.) Now! Zeitler was a 1st round pick in 2012. Big Zee is the 6th ranked OG in the NFL going to the GMEN, a team that needed an O-line overhaul. In exchange the GMEN gave up Vernon an actual overhyped 3rd round pick in 2013 by the ‘Phins. The ‘Phins thoughtvso highly of Vernon they just let him leave. Vernon was a desperation signing by Jerry Reese and the GMEN way overpaid. And all of you ANALysts admitted the GMEN overpaid for Vernon in 2016. The result on Vernon 3 mediocre (about 7-8 sacks per) seasons marred by constant leg and arm injuries. The GMEN actually save $1.5M on the 2019 cap with this trade. WIN GMEN

6.) Now! The 2019 1st rounder #17. This pick is better then what the Raiders got for NFL DPOY in Khalil Mack, the Raiders got the 27th pick for Mack. This pick is also better then what the Raiders got for Pro Bowler WR Amari Cooper, the Raiders got the 24th pick for Cooper. And the pick is a lot better then what the Steelers got for Antonio Brown. The Steelers got a feeble 3rd and 5th rounders. And Brown is a better receiver then Beckham. wIN GMEN.

7.) Now! The 2019 3rd rounder #95. Remember! The GMEN used their original 3rd rounder in the supplemental draft on CB Sam Beal. So in all actuality the GMEN really have two 3rd rounders, their own which was used earlier on Beal and now another pick in the 3rd round courteousy of the Brownies. WIN GMEN

8.) Now! The GMEN eat $16M in dead cap money for 2019 by trading Beckham. The Sterlers are actually eating $21.2M by trading Brown. The GMEN are in a small financial jam for 2019. Then the GMEN will be financially set in 2020 and beyond. With NO Beckham antics, drama, boat trips with the Biebs, etc. WIN GMEN

9.) The GMEN still have Sterling Shepard and Evan Engram as receivers. They are both younger and just as talented. At #17 the GMEN could take WRs DK Metcalf or N’Keal Harry. Or! Draft TE Noah Fant and move Engram to the outside. Which would shut all the critics up. Or just stay with complimentary players at receiver in Cody Latimer, Corey Coleman, Bennie Fowler, etc. WIN GMEN

10.) THE ONLY REASON THE MEDIA GRADES THE GMEN AS GETTING FLEECED, IS FOR ONE REASON. THE MEDIA LOST THEIR BIG BLUE CONVERSATION PIECE FOR THEIR SPORTS REPORTING. NOW! CLEVELAND GETS TO REPORT ON THE BECKHAM CIRCUS EVERY WEEK.
