Giants Haven’t Had Any Contract Talks With Their Upcoming Free Agents

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Giants haven’t had any talks with their key upcoming free agents including OL Justin Pugh, C Weston Richburg or LB Devon Kennard.

This also goes for WR Odell Bechkam Jr, who has been eligible to sign a long-term extension dating back last year. Although, New York has options with Beckham, given that they picked up his fifth-year option and can always franchise him if needed after that.

Schefter adds that it remains to be seen whether the Giants prefer to wait and see if the players show more down the stretch or if ownership just feels as though it wouldn’t be wise to agree to new contracts when there could be major changes coming to both the coaching staff and front office.

Sources tell Schefter that the situation with the Giants has gotten to the point where “the players welcome the opportunity leave what has devolved into a depressing and dysfunctional situation.”

According to Schefter, it appears as though the Giants have “extended unofficial invitations to their players on expiring contracts to test the market.

Other teams like the Eagles have been working to lock up their core players and prevent them from becoming free agents next year. However, it’s clear that nothing is imminent in New York right now and there could be more changes than just coaching and front office personnel next year.

We have Pugh featured in our Top 25 – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
